Obama in Springfield, Aug. 23, 2008

After making it into the office to find my editor passed out in front of his desk after a sleepless night, going to Obama in Springfield was pretty cool.  We all feared the temperatures, and I was a little disappointed that I had missed the absolute thrill of hearing in-person the VP candidate.  (Unfortunately, those on Obama’s email list saw his pick when he sent out a massmail early in the AM.)

The heat was “not quite Katrina”, according to one prominent photographer, but it was, nonetheless, unbearable for quite a few people.  I saw many a paramdeic and firefighter pushing through the jam-packed crowd to get at an overheated supporter.
