Last week, a hoops-playing teacher in the department was showing some of the women teachers how to tune into the closed-circuit gym court channel on the office television. So sets the backdrop to the Friday Morning Hoops League, a collection of highly competitive basketball-playing teachers from mixed ages. Some are coaches, some English teachers, others… who knows?
I am developing many skills during my student teaching placement. Some of which will be outside of the classroom environment. In this case, my experience is growing down the hall and around the corner before school begins. With any hope, I am on track to get better at basketball thanks to a couple of my teachers in my department who won’t let me live down a botched layup or missed shot. They will pop a head in a room just to exchange ball trash talk. Welcoming feeling.
